PRODUCT DETAILS
A Box of 5 is five cans, and each can holds twenty pouches. That is a hundred pouches in total — a figure worth stating plainly, because most listings quote only the can count and leave you to work out the rest.
Tacja is Elf Bar's nicotine pouch line, made in Sweden from gum and plant-based fibres. Tobacco-free, smokeless, and with nothing to charge or refill — you put one between your lip and gum and it works for around half an hour.
The strength numbers are not what most people assume
This causes more confusion than anything else about pouches, so it is worth setting out before you choose.
The 12mg, 18mg and 20mg on the can are milligrams per gram, which describes the whole tin rather than a single pouch. The actual nicotine in each pouch is lower:
| Regular — 12mg/g | about 6mg per pouch |
| Medium — 18mg/g | about 9mg per pouch |
| Strong — 20mg/g | about 11mg per pouch |
So the Strong tin is not a 20mg pouch. If you have come from a 20mg vape and assume these match, the Strong is closer to half that per use — though absorption through the gum works differently from inhaling, so the comparison is not direct either.
If you are new to pouches entirely, Regular is the sensible starting point regardless of how much you smoked. Gum tissue needs a few days to adjust, and starting on Strong tends to end in a sore lip rather than a successful switch.
Menthol — where it sits in the range
Tacja splits into two flavour families. Menthol belongs to the Frozen range, which is the colder of the two.
Within Frozen, Menthol is the cleanest and most traditional — straight cooling without a fruit or herb note behind it. Mint is softer and rounder, Spearmint is sweeter, and Freezing Ice is the most intense cooling in the whole line.
If Menthol turns out to be more than you want, Mint is the step down rather than a different direction entirely.
The Mellow range, if cooling is not your thing
The other four flavours are fruit-led with much less cooling: Cherry Ice, Lemon Mango, Watermelon Ice and Blueberry Sour Raspberry.
The flavours are drawn from Elf Bar's disposable range, so if a particular bar flavour worked for you there is a reasonable chance of finding it here.

How to use one
- Take a pouch from the can and place it between your upper lip and gum.
- A tingling starts within a minute or so — that is the nicotine beginning to absorb, and it settles after five.
- Leave it in for up to thirty minutes. There is no need to move it around.
- Put the used pouch in the compartment in the lid, or bin it.
They are not chewed, sucked or swallowed. The nicotine passes through the gum lining rather than the stomach, and chewing one just makes a mess without speeding anything up.
The tingle catches people out on their first pouch. It is normal and it fades — if it is genuinely uncomfortable rather than just unfamiliar, drop a strength.
Why some people use these instead of vaping
No vapour, no smell, no charging and nothing visible. That covers the situations vaping does not — a long flight, a meeting, anywhere indoors where a device is awkward.
Plenty of people run both rather than switching outright: pouches during the day where a vape is impractical, and a device otherwise. There is no requirement to pick one.
What they will not do is replicate the hand-to-mouth habit, which is a real part of why some people find them harder to settle into than a vape. If that habit is the thing you are trying to keep, a pod kit may suit better — and our guide on switching covers the wider question.
The full pouch range here covers the other brands stocked alongside Tacja.
Storage and handling
Cool and dry, with the lid closed. Pouches dry out if left open, and a dried pouch releases nicotine unevenly and tastes of very little.
Keep them away from children and pets — the cans are small, colourful and easily mistaken for sweets, and the nicotine content is meaningful.
Questions about Tacja pouches
How many pouches are in a Box of 5?
One hundred — five cans of twenty. Each can is a single flavour and strength.
What does 20mg actually mean on the can?
Twenty milligrams per gram across the whole tin, which works out at roughly 11mg in each pouch. It is not 20mg per pouch.
Which strength should I start on?
Regular, if you have not used pouches before. Gum tissue takes a few days to adjust and the Strong is uncomfortable to begin with for most people.
How long does one pouch last?
Up to thirty minutes. The tingling starts within a minute and settles after about five.
Do they contain tobacco?
No. Tacja pouches are made from gum base and plant fibres in Sweden — nicotine without tobacco leaf.
Can I chew or swallow them?
No. They sit between the lip and gum, and the nicotine absorbs through the gum lining. Chewing does not speed it up.
What is the difference between Menthol and Mint?
Menthol is the cleaner, sharper cooling; Mint is softer and rounder. Both are in the Frozen range, with Freezing Ice the coldest of all.
Can I use them where vaping is not allowed?
Generally yes — there is no vapour or smell. Individual venues and employers set their own rules, so check where it matters.
