10mg or 20mg
Twenty milligrams is the UK legal maximum and the strength most people use when they first move off cigarettes or bars. It is what a 600-puff bar contained, so it will feel familiar.
Ten milligrams is the step down, and it is the more useful number than most listings suggest. If 20mg has started to feel harsh, or you are vaping more than you did at the start, halving the strength usually solves both without changing anything else.
Both sit in the same bottles at the same price, so the choice costs nothing either way.

Why nic salt rather than freebase
Nicotine salt is absorbed faster and feels smoother at the same strength, which is why 20mg is tolerable in a salt and would be harsh as freebase.
The practical consequence is that a salt satisfies from a few draws rather than a long session. That behaviour is much closer to a cigarette than sub-ohm vaping is, and it is the main reason salts suit people who have just stopped smoking.
The trade is hardware. Salts belong in MTL pod kits at low wattage. Putting 20mg nic salt in a sub-ohm tank at 80W would be genuinely unpleasant — that is what shortfills at 3mg exist for.

The October 2026 duty

Because the duty is charged per 10ml rather than as a percentage, it lands hardest on cheaper bottles — a £3 bottle and a £7 bottle both take the same £2.20.
