Check Your Mod Can Drive It First

This is the one thing to sort out before anything else, and it is where most people go wrong.

This tank needs 80 to 140 watts. It runs best at around 100 to 110.

If your mod tops out below 80W, it will not work properly. You get a weak, wet vape with almost no flavour. Nothing breaks, it just never does what it is supposed to do.

The tank is also wide. At 32mm across it will hang over the edge of a slim mod. It still works, but it looks wrong and feels top-heavy in a pocket.

It screws onto any normal mod with a 510 fitting, which is the standard screw thread almost every mod uses.

What Comes With The Smok TFV18 Tank

More than you might expect for the price. Two coils and a spare glass are both included.

The two glass tubes are worth knowing about. The round one bulges outward and holds more. The straight one is slimmer and holds 6.5ml. Both are in the box, so you can swap depending on whether you want capacity or a neater shape.

Which Coils Fit The TFV18 Sub-Ohm Tank

Read this bit twice. It is the most common ordering mistake on the whole Smok TFV range, and it costs people money every week.

This tank takes Smok TFV18 replacement coils. It also takes the older TFV16 mesh coils, which is handy if you are moving up from that tank.

It does not take TFV18 Mini coils.

The names are one word apart. The coils look almost the same in the packet. But they are a different size and will not sit properly, so the tank leaks and the coil never wicks right.

So before you order coils, look at the tank and check whether Mini is written on it. That one word is the difference between a coil that works and one that floods your mod.

This matters even more on a bulk order. Buy fifty of the wrong coil and you have fifty coils nobody can use.

Filling The TFV18 For The First Time

1. Press the button on the top cap and slide it across. A hole appears underneath.
2. Pour liquid in through the hole, up to just below the top of the glass. Keep it away from the tube running up the middle.
3. Slide the cap shut.
4. Stand the tank upright and leave it ten minutes.
5. Take four or five pulls without pressing the fire button.
6. Start at the low end of the watt range and work up over the first tankful.

Ten minutes sounds like a lot. It is not.

Inside the coil is a thick piece of cotton. It has to soak up liquid before you heat it. These are big coils, so they hold a lot of cotton and take longer to fill than a small one does.

Fire a dry coil at 100 watts and it is finished in one pull. Not weakened. Finished. You will taste burnt cotton for the rest of that coil.

Coils this size cost real money, so ten minutes is cheap insurance.

Only High-VG Liquid Goes In

Liquid comes in two rough thicknesses, and the Smok TFV18 sub-ohm tank only takes one of them.

Thick liquid is 70/30 or higher VG. It moves slowly and makes big clouds. This is what the TFV18 is built for.

Thin liquid is 50/50. It flows fast, which is fine in a small tight coil but a disaster here. The holes in these coils are wide, so thin liquid runs straight through them and floods the tank.

So use a 70/30 shortfill e-liquid and nothing thinner.

Nicotine matters just as much. At 100 watts you take in a huge amount of vapour with every pull, so the nicotine adds up fast.

Stick to 3mg or lower. A 20mg nic salt in a tank like this would be genuinely horrible and could make you feel unwell. Nic salts belong in small pods, not here.

Be ready for how fast it empties, too. At 100 watts a 7.5ml tank goes in well under a day. That is the trade for not refilling every couple of hours.

A 7.5ml Tank Is Legal, A 7.5ml Pod Is Not

People ask this a lot, and the answer surprises them.

You have probably seen that UK law limits vape pods to 2ml. So how is a 7.5ml tank allowed?

What The October Tax Means Here

From 1 October 2026 there is a new tax on vape liquid. It is £2.20 for every 10ml.

But the liquid is, and this tank drinks liquid. That is the part worth thinking about.

Someone on a small pod might use 2ml a day. Someone on a TFV18 at 100 watts can use 8ml. Same tax rate, four times the bill.
